Dutch companies in Turkey are also considering Syrian refugees when looking to fill vacancies, Minister Lilianne Ploumen of Foreign Trade announced. Currently there are 240 vacancies that are open to refugees. “That is beautiful”, she said. As one of the largest investors in the Turkey, there are many Dutch companies located in the country. By opening vacancies to refugees, the Netherlands along with the business world “can make a tangible contribution to the shelter of many refugees in Turkey and prevent that this vulnerable group is exploited in the illegal circuit”, the Minister said.  The current vacancies include jobs in the metal industry, construction and logistics. Ploumen called on Dutch entrepreneurs and Turkish companies to follow this example and provide employment for Syrian refugees.

Earlier this month the Dutch government invested 260 million euros into sheltering asylum seekers in the region. About 30 Dutch companies, including UltimooCollect, AkzoNobel, DAF Trucks and DSM, also singed a letter of intent to open jobs for refugees. “In addition, Dutch companies are also willing to offer internships to both Turkish and Syrian students This also contributes to greater prospects for refugees.” Ploumen said.
